UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State baseball team will not play this weekend due to the winter weather covering large parts of the country, head coach Rob Cooper announced Thursday evening. The USA Baseball-Irish Classic, in which Penn State was scheduled to play NC State, Cincinnati and Notre Dame, Friday-Sunday in Raleigh and Cary, N.C., was canceled Thursday morning due to inclement weather.
A winter snow storm blanketed much of the south Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Cooper looked into alternative sites and opponents, but no suitable options were found.
Penn State is next scheduled to play eight games in 10 days, starting Friday, Mar. 6 with a three-game series at Charleston Southern. The spring break trip will also include two games at No. 10 South Carolina and three games at the Liberty Invitational, which will include one game against Western Carolina and two against host Liberty.
