BLACKSBURG, Va. - A partial squad of Penn State women's swimmers concluded action Sunday at the Virginia Tech Invitational in the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Anna Valentine (Dearborn, Mich.) and Hannah Matheson (Skillman, N.J.) posted the top finishes in 'A' finals for the Nittany Lions, both placing third in the 100 butterfly (57.15) and 200 butterfly (2:03.96), respectively. Valentine also placed sixth in the 200 (2:05.06) behind teammate Hayli Randolph (King of Prussia, Pa.) in fifth (2:04.94).
Emily Harris (Downington, Pa.) continued a strong weekend, placing fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.47). Tara Rogers (Lansdale, Pa.) concluded the event with a sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 51.96, while Arielle Krigger (Allison Park, Pa.) was 10th in 52.96.
Additionally, Kerry Treusdell (Churchville, Md.) and Bridget Moody (Port Washington, N.Y.) competed in the 1650 freestyle, placing third (17:04.15) and fourth (17:31.23), respectively.
Saturday, Harris posted a pair of top six finishes to lead the Nittany Lions. In the 200 individual medley, she placed fifth in 2:08.15, followed by teammate Randolph in sixth (2:09.47), and in the 200 breaststroke, Harris placed sixth in 2:21.61.
Treusdell led a trio of Lions in the 500 free, placing seventh in 4:57.72. Rogers was 10th in 5:05.27, while Moody was 12th in 5:07.78.
Three also advanced to the finals in the 200 freestyle, led by Rogers who placed ninth in 1:51.18. Krigger placed 14th in 1:55.64, while Moody tied for 15th in 1:55.77.
Krigger also placed 10th in the 50 free in 24.21, while Matheson was ninth in the 100 backstroke in 57.80 seconds.
Next for PSU is the Big Ten Championship, which will be hosted by Ohio State, Feb. 18-21.
