Nittany Lions Contribute on International Stage

March 11, 2015

LA MANGA, Spain; March 11, 2015 - Three Nittany Lions were major contributors to a perfect showing for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team on the international stage, as Maddie Elliston, Emily Ogle and Kaleigh Riehl helped the team to a three-match sweep at the 10 Nations U-19 International Tournament. Penn State head coach Erica Walsh is an assistant on U-20 head coach Michelle French's staff.

The tournament, which ran from Feb. 26 to March 9, featured 2-0 victories over Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway. Ogle and Elliston had their first caps during the three-game tournament, while Riehl, a member of the U-20 team at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, logged time in two matches. Ogle and Elliston joined the U-20 team this year after participating in U-18 training camps in 2014.

Ogle and Elliston started in all of the matches and Riehl started against Sweden and Norway, playing in the midfield or in the United States' third en route to the clean sheets. All three played full-time against Norway, and Ogle and Elliston went the distance against Sweden. Additionally, Ogle assisted on the match-winning goal against the Netherlands when her free kick rolled directly to Mikaela Harvey, who finished low for the 1-0 score.

Riehl joins the Nittany Lions for her freshman season in 2015. Ogle will return after her Big Ten Freshman of the Year campaign, while Elliston earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors in 2014.
