UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State senior All-America Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) was recognized as a 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction for posting a fall semester grade point average above 3.90, it was announced Monday by the by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Gebhart, a community and environment development major, was one of 79 NCAA Division I field hockey student-athletes to accomplish the feat, but the only 2014 first-team NFHCA All-American. She was also one of seven honorees from the Big Ten.
On the field Gebhart, was a four-time NFHCA All-American during her career. This past season, while dominating in the classroom, she finished tied for second on the team with 10 goals, tied for first with seven assists and second with 27 points. A team captain, Gebhart totaled at least one point in 10 games. She concluded her career eighth on Penn State's all-time assists list.
In addition to her academic and athletic excellence, Gebhart has been active in the community. She and teammate Bethany Mink both danced in THON last month as representatives of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
