Nittany Lion Women's Golf Finishes Opening Day of Briar's Creek Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Penn State women's golf team completed the first round and made it through most of the second round of the Briar's Creek Invitational before play was halted due to darkness.Play will resume at 8 a.m. tomorrow with the Nittany Lions having between three and four holes remaining in the second round.

The Nittany Lions started the day well, sitting in sixth place after the first round.

Senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) notched six birdies en route to an opening-round 1-over 73. She was tied for eighth after the first round. Fellow senior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) posted a 75 (+3) in the first round to finish 23rd, while junior Grace Chung (Toronto, Ontario) shot a 78 (+6) in her first 18 holes.

Junior Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) carded a 78 (+6) and senior Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) had an opening-round 79 (+7). Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) is participating as an individual and shot an 86 (+14) to open.

Miami and Florida are tied atop the leaderboard after 18 holes with identical 3-over 291s. The Gators' Kelly Grassell carded a 3-under 69 in her first round.
