Nittany Lions Finish First Tournament of Spring Season

MIAMI, FLA -The Penn State women's golf team wrapped up the final round of the Hurricane Invitational today, shooting a 300 (+16) on the day. Overall, the Nittany Lions placed 15th with 902 total strokes (+50).

Senior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) and junior Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) fired a pair of one-over 71's, placing tied for 33rd and tied for 39th for the tournament, respectively. Archambault worked her way to an impressive four birdies on the day. Senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) recorded a third straight solid round, finishing with a four-over 75 on the final day of play. She finished the tournament 39th with a +10 for the three-day tourney.

Senior Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) and junior Grace Chung (Richmond Hill, Ontario) rounded out the team recording an 81 (+10) and 83 (+12), respectively. Junior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio), who played as an individual, shot a seven-over 78.

Coach Denise St. Pierre was optimistic about the performance saying, "I thought we had some individual performances that were good. We can't afford to not have a low fourth score, but when we get going I am confident we will find ourselves knocking on the door of some championships."

Northwestern cemented their team victory by shooting a 297 (+13) on the day to win by six strokes. Individually, Tiffany Chan of Daytona State won, finishing as the only player under-par overall at one-under par.

Following the Hurricane Invitational, the Nittany Lions will participate in Florida the Gator Invitational from Friday, March 6-Sunday, March 8.
