GAINESVILLE, FLA. - The Penn State women's golf team performed well in the first round of the Gator Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, placing seventh with a total of 307 (+27) strokes. The second round of the Gator Invitational continues tomorrow with Penn State taking the course at 10:30 a.m.

Junior Grace Chung (Toronto, Ontario) led the Nittany Lions on the first day, scoring a four-over 74. Chung, who had 14 pars in the opening round, is currently tied for ninth. Senior Catherine Hererra (Houston, Texas) used two birdies on the day to power her way to a six-over 76, placing her in a tie for 25th. Senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and junior Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec) both put in solid performances, shooting a 78 (+8) and a 79 (+9) respectively. Rounding out the squad was senior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario), who carded an 83 (+13) on the day.

Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) is also competing in the Gator Invitational as an individual and shot an 81.

Arizona currently leads the tournament after a first round 295 (+15). Individually, Eunice Yi of Georgia Regents University shot a one-under par 69 in the first round to take hold of the lead. Yi is currently the only player in the field who is under par.

Following the Gator Invitational, the Nittany Lions will participate in the Briar's Creek Invitational in Charleston, S.C. on March 23 and 24.
