Gaspar Highlights EIVA Hall of Fame Class

April 8, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) has announced its fourth Hall of Fame Class, which is highlighted by former Nittany Lion Javier Gaspar. Gaspar and two others will be honored at the 2015 EIVA Championship match at the site of the highest seeded team.

Javier Gaspar played at Penn State from 1985-88 under the direction of legendary Penn State head coach Tom Tait. During his time in the Blue and White he earned AVCA All-America honors in all four years, earning first team laurels in 1987-88 after garnering second team honors in 1986 and honorable mention distinction in 1985.

Gaspar was also a four-time All-EIVA honoree. He helped the Nittany Lions to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 1986-87, as well as a trio of EIVA Tournament Championships from 1985-97.

Following graduation, Gaspar went on to play professionally at the international level. He also competed with the United States National team as the starting setter on the 1989 squad.

Penn State has seen at least one former student-athlete inducted into every EIVA Hall of Fame class, since its inaugural class was selected in 2012. Past honorees include Tait (2012), Ivan Contreras (2013) and Penn State's most recent honoree, Ramon Hernandez (2014).

Aside from Gaspar, this year's other Hall of Fame inductees include Marin Gjaja (Princeton) and Santiago Restrepo (East Stroudsburg).
