COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State men's golf team finished ninth in a 14-team field Sunday at the Kepler Intercollegiate, shooting an 887 (294-290-303) on the Scarlet Course.
Junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) earned a top-10 finish after shooting a 3-over 216 through 54 holes. Second behind Dornes for the Nittany Lions was freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.), who carded a 78 in the third round to bring his score to a 223 and a 36th-place finish.
Sophomore Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) was just a stroke behind Miller with a 224 three-round tally, followed by senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) who notched a 225.
Junior Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) rounded out the starters for the Blue and White, shooting 234 strokes.
Georgia Tech held on to the first place position after day two to capture the 2015 Kepler Intercollegiate championship. The team posted a 4-under 848, while two of its own shared the individual crown. Anders Albertson and Vince Whaley both shot 5-under 208's.
Penn State returns to play on April 18 when the team hits the links at its home course for the Rutherford Intercollegiate.
