Nittany Lions Host 39th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate

April 17, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's golf program is set to host the 39th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate April 18-19 on the Penn State Blue Course.

The par-71, 7,202-yard site was host to the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship in 2009 and numerous other events conducted by the USGA, FCWT, AJGA, IJGT, PGA Junior Series and the West Penn Golf Association. With the updates and renovations made in 2007, the Penn State Blue Course now proudly sits with some of the top courses in the Big Ten.

The 12-team field will include George Washington, St. Joseph's, Georgetown, Eastern Michigan, Canisius, St. Bonaventure, Bowling Green, Rutgers, Binghamton, Youngstown St. and Cleveland St.

Penn State will be looking to capture its 23rd Rutherford Intercollegiate title, the last coming in 2011. Starters for the home squad will be seniors JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) and Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.), sophomores Cody Cox (Milford, Pa.) and Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario), and freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.).

Seniors Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and Shane Stewart (Dublin, Ohio), junior Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) and freshman Josh Rinehart (York, Pa.) will compete as individuals.

Both days of the tournament will begin with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. No live scoring will be available for the tournament but results will posted on golfstat.com following each day of play.
