Penn State Athletics Co-Sponsoring Free TrueSportU Community Event on April 23

April 20, 2015 UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is co-sponsoring `TrueSport U: Becoming a TrueSport Family' on Thursday, April 23 in Rec Hall. The free community event is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and is open to the public, with events geared to parents, children, coaches and administrators.

TrueSport is a community-based movement that champions the positive values and life lessons learned through sport. The event is co-sponsored by USADA, the College of Health and Human Development and Penn State Athletics.

Activities include a meet-and-greet with Penn State coaches and student-athletes, a Q&A session and an interactive event for kids. The event will feature an opening kickoff by Nittany Lion football coach James Franklin, a panel by Lady Lion Basketball Coach Coquese Washington and an event with U.S. Olympic Team swimmer Peter Vanderkaay.

The Penn State men's and women's fencing, women's gymnastics, men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling teams will be represented at the event.

Members of Penn State's NCAA runner-up fencing team will participate in a demonstration of the three weapons: foil, sabre, and epee. In addition, members of the Nittany Lion women's gymnastics team will participate in a demonstration.

Parking is available in Lot A Red off Atherton Street at no charge after 5:00 p.m. Parking also is available in the Nittany Parking Deck for $1 per hour (cash only).
