UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Big Ten Championships began Friday as the Penn State men's golf team is tied for tenth after the first day. The Nittany Lions are 19 shots over par as through two rounds, the blue and white accumulated 595 strokes.
Freshman Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) paced the Nittany Lions with his first round 71 and second round 73. Miller is tied for 13th as the freshman is at even par.
Senior Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) is tied for 31st place after the senior posted a second round 72. The New York native is four shots over par and has a total of 148 strokes through two rounds.
Senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) is seven shots over par after shooting a 72 and 79 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Talbert is in tie for 42nd with 151 strokes.
JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) and Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) are tied for 59th and 61st, respectively. Dornes is 13 strokes over par as the junior posted round one and two scores of 76 and 81. Elliott tallied rounds of 82 and 76 and is 14 strokes over par.
The Nittany Lions are back in action Saturday as round two was forced to be cut short due to darkness. While Penn State completed both rounds, the second round will continue play starting at 9:00 a.m. The third round will begin at 9:30 as the pairings for the third round will stay the same as the first two.
