UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

The seventh-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team will head to Charlottesville, Va. for an NCAA First Round game against Johns Hopkins on Friday. The Nittany Lions will be making their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance.

"It's a great opportunity to go and keep playing," head coach Missy Doherty said. "Johns Hopkins is a team we're familiar with and we look forward to competing in the NCAA Tournament once again."

Doherty has led Penn State (14-4) to four straight NCAA bids under her watch.

The Nittany Lions have been the hottest team in Division I women's lacrosse, winning nine of their last 10 games and claiming the inaugural Big Ten Tournament Sunday afternoon over Ohio State.

Penn State faces No. 18 Johns Hopkins (14-3), who earned an at-large bid as an independent team following its 9-8 upset win over No. 4 Duke on Sunday morning. The Nittany Lions and Blue Jays split a pair of meetings last season as conference rivals in the ALC. PSU is 10-5 all-time against Hopkins.

The Nittany Lions and Blue Jays will play at the University of Virginia, who is hosting a four-team pod as a No. 7 seed. The Penn State-Johns Hopkins winner will face Virginia-Winthrop at Klöckner Stadium.
