UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team has compiled the results of the team's Sorority Challenge that took place during Big Ten home matches. Throughout the spring, the men's tennis team invited Penn State sororities to conference home matches in an effort to raise awareness for the tennis programs among students and unite the Greek community with the athletics community.
The challenge was designed to reward the top three sororities in both an attendance and a theme category.
Delta Zeta claimed first place in both categories. They brought 56 members to the Nittany Lions' match vs. No. 9 Ohio State and had an impressive neon theme.
Sigma Alpha and Gamma Phi tied for second place in the attendance category, while Sigma Alpha also was second place with a "lumberjills" theme.
Kappa Delta took third place in the theme category with an aliens theme.
In the six matches that were part of the sorority challenge, Penn State had a total attendance of 620, including 163 for the Ohio State match, with an average of 103 fans per match.
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Jeff Zinn and Assistant Coach Paul Tobin, won nine home matches this spring and went 15-15 overall. Penn State won five Big Ten matches and six against ranked opponents.
