Penn State to Meet Maryland in Big Ten First Round

The Penn State softball team will face Maryland in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. The tournament begins on Thursday, May 7, with the Nittany Lions and Terrapins meeting at 2:30 p.m. The game will be televised on BTN Plus. The Nittany Lions are the ninth seed in the bracket, while the Terrapins are the eighth seed.

Penn State enters the Big Ten Tournament with a record of 28-27, including 9-14 in Big Ten play. The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Amanda Lehotak, have their most overall wins since 2011 and their most conference victories since 2012. It is also Penn State's highest seed in the tournament since 2007.

The blue and white finished the regular season this past weekend at No. 3 Michigan.

The Nittany Lions get a rematch against the Terrapins after dropping three tight games to them April 17-19. Macy Jones (Asburn, Va.) and Alyssa VanDerveer (Hillsborough, N.J.) each hit home runs in that series, including VanDerveer's grand slam in the second game. Jones and Lexi Knief (Ramsey, N.J.) each had two doubles.

The winner of Thursday's game will take on the top-seeded Wolverines at 2:30 p.m. on Friday on Big Ten Network.
