ECAC Division I Women's Lacrosse All-Star Honors
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - On Tuesday, Penn State head coach Missy Doherty collected another accolade to an already decorated 2015 season: ECAC Coach of the Year. Student-athletes Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) and Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) each earned spots on the ECAC All-Star Team.
Penn State's 16-win season marked its highest win total since 1989, while the team reached its third NCAA Quarterfinals in four years under Doherty. Penn State has made four consecutive appearances in the national tournament for the first time since 1991. Doherty was tabbed Big Ten Coach of the Year for her team's championship performance as the Nittany Lions earned their first conference tournament title.
Coffey landed on the ECAC All-Star First Team as a midfielder, while McCormick was named to the Second Team as an attacker. Coffey will take part in the 2015 IWLCA Division I North-South Game on Saturday (11:30 a.m.) at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
Coffey's remarkable season was felt all over the field. The senior was first on the team in goals (43), second in assists (11) and points (54), while topping the defensive chart with 25 caused turnovers. Coffey also scooped 26 ground balls, which tied for fourth on the squad, while leading the team in free-position shooting (10-for-12). The two-time All-American's offensive marks were all career highs.
McCormick became a two-time IWLCA All-American on May 18, earning her second such laurel on the second team. The all-time leader in assists at Penn State with 137, McCormick had a career-high 43 helpers in 2015. Along with 24 goals, McCormick led the Nittany Lions with 67 points. She leaves PSU fourth in career points with 261, while ranking 15th with 124 goals.
