June 25, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

Senior Robby Creese (Mount Airy, Md.) has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Creese was also named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team.

During 2014-15, Creese earned all-region honors in cross country with his 22nd-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Cross Country Regional. During the indoor track season, Cresse won Big Ten titles in the mile and the 3,000-meter run, and also anchored the runner-up distance medley relay team at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. In the outdoor track season, Creese ran the No. 2 time in the NCAA during the 2015 season in the 1,500-meter run (3:39.02), which ranks third all-time in the Penn State record books.

Creese, a double major in mathematics and economics, has had great success in the classroom, on the track and on the cross country course as a Nittany Lion. In December, Creese completed his undergraduate work with a 3.69 grade point average.

This past spring semester, Creese posted a 3.89 GPA in his first semester as a graduate student and he will graduate from Penn State in the spring of 2016 with a graduate degree.

Creese recently placed 13th in the 1,500-meter run at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with his time of 3:42.09.

During his time as a Nittany Lion, Creese has garnered All-America honors three times, won five Big Ten titles, qualified for the NCAA Championships six times, ran as a member of two top-10 collegiate distance medley relays and posted two runner-up finishes in the distance medley relay at the NCAA Championships.

Creese is Penn State's third CoSIDA Academic All-American this year and the Nittany Lions' 189th selection all-time, which ranks No. 3 among Division I institutions.
