UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Alina Ortega Jurado, a freshman from Wetzlar, Germany, has been added to the Penn State women's soccer team for the 2015 season, Nittany Lion head coach Erica Walsh announced Tuesday.
"Alina brings an extensive amount of national team and high-level club experience to our program," Walsh said. "Along with our other extremely talented incoming freshmen, she will be a part of one of the most athletic, talented and competitive teams we have had in my eight years with Penn State women's soccer."
The rookie forward/midfielder has been a part of the German National team system for the last several years, most recently competing in qualifying rounds for the U19 European Championships. Jurado also has spent time with the FFC Frankfurt First and Second Teams, helping lead the first team to victory in the UEFA Women's Champions League final.
Jurado completes a talent-filled freshman class of nine for the upcoming season. Among the previous eight signees are two of the Top 10 overall recruits in the 2015 class and several members of the U.S. Women's National Teams.
The 2015 Nittany Lions will take the field for the first time in an exhibition vs. Army West Point Aug. 15 at Jeffrey Field. They will then open the regular season by hosting Hofstra and Loyola Marymount in the Penn State Invitational Aug. 21 and 23
