Women's Golfer Morell Claims Runner-Up Finish at Ohio Amateur

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's golf senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) finished second in the Women's Ohio State Amateur Championship, which was played at the Weymouth Country Club in Medina. She came up just short in the final match, falling 1-up to Haylee Rae Harford, the tournament's No. 2 seed.

The eighth seed in the tournament, Morell defeated Elizabeth Win in the opening round, 6 & 5. She then picked up a 3 & 2 win over Allison Schultz and a 1-up win over Natalie Goodson in the third round. Morell punched her ticket to the final round with a 4 & 3 win over Cassie Pantelas.

The final round was a thrilling match as Morell took a 2-up lead after five holes. Harford fought back to tie the match after 11 holes before Morell retook a 1-up lead with a win on the 12th hole. After a series of halves, Harford won the 16th to even the match again. Harford then chipped in on the 17th hole to take her first lead of the match and the players each converted on pars on the 18th hole to claim the 1-up win for Harford.
