UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State forward Connor Maloney (Harrisburg, Pa.) was called up to the United States Under-23 National Team for training camp from Aug 5-8 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif.
This age group will allow the coaching staff to scout a new group of collegiate players and is focusing on qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro
Maloney is one of 28 players to be selected to the roster, including five forwards, 10 midfielders, nine defenders, and four goalkeepers.
The Harrisburg, Pa. native posted a breakout sophomore season for the Nittany Lions, leading the team in points (23), goals (10) and game-winning goals (5). Additionally, the Midwest Region Second Team honoree ranked first in the conference in goals and tied for second and first in points and game-winning goals, respectively.
For his efforts in the 2014 campaign, Maloney was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and garnered unanimous All-Big Ten First Team honors for the first time in his career.
