Nittany Lions Ranked 23rd in NSCAA Preseason Poll

The Penn State men's soccer team was ranked 23rd on Monday afternoon by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in a preseason poll. The ranking marks the second-straight season that the Nittany Lions have garnered recognition as they were ranked 15th prior to the 2014 campaign.

Penn State, who made it to the 2014 NCAA Tournament Second Round, is one-of-four Big Ten teams ranked in the top-25 of the preseason poll with Michigan State coming in at No. 9, Maryland ranking 13th and Indiana ranking 14th.

The Nittany Lions will face four teams that were featured in the top-25 of Monday's poll. Penn State and No. 14 Indiana will square off in its first Big Ten match of the season Sunday, Sept. 13 on the Big Ten Network at 1 p.m. at Jeffrey Field before traveling to No. 26 Akron Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a 7 p.m. contest. The Nittany Lions will then host No. 13 Maryland Friday, Oct. 9 at Jeffrey Field at 7 p.m. Finally, Penn State will travel to No. 9 Michigan State to be featured in their second BTN contest Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.

Both Northwestern and Ohio State received votes in the preseason ranking, putting six B1G schools on the NSCAA Preseason Poll.

Penn State's opener is set for Friday, Aug. 28 against San Francisco. Match time at Jeffrey Field is slated for 5:30 p.m. and admission is free for all fans. The match kicks off a two-game opening weekend as Navy visits Happy Valley for a Sunday afternoon match on Aug. 30 at 3 p.m.
