UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 13th annual Powerade Cougar Classic got underway today and the Penn State women's golf team is in 17th heading into the second round shooting 304 plus-16 on the day.
Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) had one of the most exciting and well played rounds of the tournament so far. Diez started off her day with a whole-in-one on the par 3, third hole and finished off her round even par. Diez is tied for 15th in individual scores.
Big Ten golfer of the week Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) looked to build on her already impressive start to her college career. Rogowicz was second on the team shooting 76 plus-4.
Newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) finished the day strong shooting even par on the back nine, with a round total of 77 plus-5.
Senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) also started to get into a groove on the back nine shooting plus-1. Morell had a round total score of 79 7-over par. Newcomer Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) also finished plus-7, while Cara Basso (Dowingtown, Pa.) also in her first year, posted 81 plus-9.
The University of Arkansas is currently in the lead shooting 282 6-under as a team. The Razorbacks have a six stroke lead in front of the University of Central Florida.
Action resumes tomorrow with another round of 18. The Nittany Lions will be teeing off at 11:40 a.m.
