Bersano Earns Two Weekly Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State redshirt-senior goalkeeper Matt Bersano (Tempe, Ariz.) was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week after recording two shutouts this past weekend.

Bersano's first shutout of the week came against James Madison Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Tempe, Ariz. native was not tested until the 77th-minute of the match and made two saves in the match for Penn State.

To close out the week, Bersano helped the Nittany Lions to a 1-0 victory over then-No. 10 Indiana. The redshirt-senior goalkeeper came up with a huge save off a penalty kick in the opening half before making three final saves in the match. The shutout marked the third of the season for Bersano, tying him for first in the Big Ten.

Furthermore, Bersano ties for second in saves (19), ranks third in goals against average (0.57) and fourth in save percentage (.864) in the conference.

Bersano and the rest of the Nittany Lions will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State Sunday, Sept. 20. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. and will be available for fans to watch on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
