Nittany Lions Sit At 15th Going into Final Round

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team cut their first round scores in half at the second round of the Cougar Classic, shooting 296 plus-8 on the day, moving them up two spots to 15th heading into the Final round.

The Lions were led by their senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) who played great all day. Morell shot 71 1-under, moving her up 40 spots in individual scores, and tying her for 45th.

The two newcomers Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) both shot 74 plus-2 for round two and helped move Penn State up in the standings. Rogowicz is shooting plus-6 for the tournament, while Waller is one behind at plus-7.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) had a team-high five birdies on the day and posted a 77 plus-5. Diez is tied for 35th on the player leaderboard.

The University of Arkansas widened their lead shooting 5-under as a team on the day and 565 11-under on the tournament. The Razorbacks are now 10 strokes ahead of the University of Virginia who jumped up 4 spots shooting 282 6-under for the round.

The tournament's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
