UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt sophomore Brittany Basinger (Purcellville, Va.) has been selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week. This is the first national honor for Basinger.
Basinger, a defender, played all 180 minutes in a pair of shutout wins over No. 2 Stanford (2-0) and Santa Clara (1-0) this past weekend. Against the second-ranked Cardinal, Basinger scored in the 66th minute to secure a 2-0 victory for the Nittany Lions. The 2-0 loss for the Cardinal is the first two-goal loss at home since the 2007 season.
Also, goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom (Germantown, Md.) was named honorable mention. Eckerstrom made four saves against Stanford and two saves against Santa Clara.
The Nittany Lions return home to Jeffrey Field for a weekend homestand. Penn State opens Big Ten play Thursday, Sept. 17, against Wisconsin at 7 p.m. on BTN and the weekend homestand comes to a close Sunday, Sept. 20, against Minnesota at 1 p.m. on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
