- Big Ten Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -Penn State senior Tori Gerlach (Perkasie, Pa.) was named Big Ten cross country Athlete of the Week Wednesday following a dominant performance Friday at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
This is the second accolade Gerlach has received this week following Monday's USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor.
Led by senior team captain Tori Gerlach, No. 23 Nittany Lion women claimed the team title for the second consecutive week at Friday's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pa.
Competing in front of a home crowd for the last time as a Nittany Lion, Gerlach would set the pace as she raced to her second win of the year, helping her teammates claim the team title over No. 10 West Virginia, No. 17 Syracuse, and Grove City.
The Perkasie, Pa. native posted a time of 21:30 on the 6,000-meter course finishing nine-seconds ahead of second-place.
The Nittany Lions do not compete again until Oct. 3, when they travel to Louisville, Ky., for the Greater Louisville Classic. The Greater Louisville Classic will be the first meet that will count towards NCAA Championship points, and will also serve as a preview of the NCAA championship course as Louisville, Ky. will host the NCAA championships Nov. 21.
