UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State's sold out Military Appreciation game against Army West Point on Saturday, October 3 will kick at noon and be televised on ESPNU. The game is the fourth of five consecutive games at Beaver Stadium and will also serve as the annual Seats for Servicemembers game.
In its fourth year, the Seats for Servicemembers program honors the commitment and sacrifices of veterans, families and loved ones by providing tickets at no cost to active and retired Servicemembers, as well as a complimentary pregame tailgate at Bryce Jordan Center. Servicemembers from as far away as California, Texas and Washington have signed up to receive donated tickets purchased by Penn State alumni, fans and businesses. All military who requested tickets before the August 31 deadline will be receiving complimentary tickets to the game.
Partial season and single game tickets for the 2015 campaign are on sale. To purchase tickets or for information on joining the Nittany Lion Club and purchasing new 2015 season tickets, as well as club seating in Beaver Stadium, fans can visit PSUnrivaled.com, call 1-800-NITTANY or visit the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office weekdays from 10 a.m-6 p.m.
Penn State has a 13-10-2 all-time record against Army. The squads last met in 1979 with Penn State posting a 24-3 victory on Homecoming. The first time the teams met was in 1899 when the Nittany Lions earned a 6-0 win. The Nittany Lions defeated Navy on Sept. 15, 2012 in their most recent game against a Service Academy.
Penn State earned a 28-3 win over Rutgers to open Big Ten Play Saturday. Saquon Barkley (195) and Akeel Lynch (120) helped the Nittany Lions amass 330 rushing yards, the highest total for a Penn State team against a Big Ten opponent since 2010. The Penn State defense held Rutgers without a touchdown, marking the first time since 2011 (Iowa) that the Nittany Lions have held a Big Ten opponent without a TD.
The Black Knights are 0-3 on the season, but all three games have been one-possession games. Army West Point's defense has had success getting into their opponent's backfield with 8.3 TFLs per game, which ranks 13th in FBS. Andrew King accounts for 2.3 TFLs per game, which is fifth nationally. He has also recovered a pair of fumbles this season to sit third in the national rankings.
The Nittany Lions continue their five-game homestand against San Diego State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. The game will be the second annual Unrivaled Band Jam, featuring performances by high school bands and the Penn State Blue Band. Band Jam will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Jordan Center. There is no admission fee. The contest will air on BTN, the Penn State Sports Network (2 p.m. airtime) and GoPSUsports.com.
