MEADOWS OF DAN, Va. -
The Penn State men's golf team is in fifth place after a shortened day one at the Primland Collegiate Invitational hosted by Wake Forest at Primland in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The event was cut short after weather delays slowed play Monday.

Two of nine teams were able to complete the scheduled 36 holes, while the Nittany Lions and the other six remaining teams will tee off at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to wrap up round two. Instead of the original 54-hole format, an abbreviated nine-hole third round will follow pending tomorrow's weather.

Charles Huntzinger is in fifth place overall after carding a 5-under par on the day. Strong performances on the back nine in both rounds propelled the freshman from Duluth, Georgia, to the top-five position.

Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) also was able finish all 36 holes, sitting in a tie for 27th-place at 3-over.

Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) and Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) each have one hole remaining in round two. Miller sits in 12th, going 2-over par in round one and sitting at 2-under heading into the final hole. After struggling a bit in the first round, Elliott rebounded in with a +1 in the second.

With two holes left to play, JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) is in a tie for No. 20 at 1-over after finishing even in first round.

North Carolina currently leads the field (-16), followed by Wake Forest (-13), Auburn (-13) and Pepperdine (-6) before Penn State checks in at No. 5. The Nittany Lions (-3) have a 17-stroke lead over the bottom half of the field: Yale (+14), Loyola (+14), Virginia Tech (+15) and Davidson (+22).
