UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Ability Athletics program announced on Wednesday that it will host the inaugural Run, Walk & Roll Mile Race on Saturday, Oct. 24 to raise funds for the program that supports adaptive athletes.

Ability Athletics, led by head coach Teri Jordan, will hold the race in front of Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University. Entry fee is $15 in advance through RunReg.com or $20 the day of the race (cash or check only). All participants must fill out a waiver and present it on race day.

Registration for the race on Oct. 24 begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Rec Hall steps with a 9 a.m. start for Ability Athletes, Penn State celebrity athletes and individuals with disabilities. At 9:15, the elite runner group starts and at 9:30 a kids division will begin as well as walkers on the mile-long course.

The course will traverse Curtin Road beginning at Rec Hall and proceed East across campus. The finish line will be in front of the newly renovated IM Building.

The purpose of the race is to support the athletes that participate in the program the necessary funds to compete in national and international events at the highest level. The goal of the program is to give athletes who are physically disabled the opportunity to compete, potentially at an Olympic level. The Nittany Lions have a history of Paralympians as evidenced by alums Maggie Redden and Kortney Clemons.

The ultimate goal of the program is to be fully endowed so it can continue to provide opportunities to these individuals for generations to come. Athletes compete in various track & field events and swimming, while hosting various activities across campus including wheelchair basketball every Wednesday evening at the White Building.
