Women's Golf Claims 20th Nittany Lion Invitational Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 39th Nittany Lion Invitational came to a conclusion on Sunday and Penn State women's golf claimed its 20th team title. The Lions led wire-to-wire with a team score of 889.

Penn State used four scores in top 10 to propel itself to victory, led by newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) who finished second with a score of 217, plus-1. Rogowicz capped her day with an eagle on the 18th hole and cemented the victory. The Nittany Lions defeated second place Delaware by six strokes.

Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) had a great start to her senior season finishing fourth in the individual standings shooting 1-under 71 for the championship round and plus-6 222 in the entire tournament.

Newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) also provided a lot of excitement for the program finishing third on the team shooting 224 plus-8 and bumping her into a three way tie for fifth in individual standings.

Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) consistently played well throughout the entire tournament shooting 77, 74, and 76 each consecutive round for a total of plus-11 on the tournament and tying her for ninth in top individual scores.

Two additional newcomers, Cara Basso (Dowingtown, Pa.) and Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) both turned in strong performances. Basso finished tied for 21st with a score of 233 and Taylor a stroke behind in a tie for 23rd.

Alessandra Liu from William & Mary won medalist honors for the Nittany Lion Invitational and was the only player to shoot under par. Liu shot 4-under 212 as William & Mary finished third as a team 903.

Under head coach Denise St. Pierre, the Nittany Lions won their 13th NLI title.

Penn State will be traveling to Charleston, South Carolina next, for the Cougar Classic, September 13-15.
