RICHMOND, Va.; October 10, 2015 ââ'¬" Junior captain Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.) took first place today in women's epee at the end of the second day of the North American Cup. Radanovich takes first place coming off the Nittany Lions' strong quarterfinal finish yesterday in men's sabre.
The Nittany Lions saw all nine fencers advance past the preliminary round in both men's foil and women's epee events.
The men's fencing team saw success in Richmond, Va. for the second day in a row. Senior foilist Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif.) took the top spot for the men's team, ending the day in seventh place after falling in the quarterfinal round.
Incoming freshman Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.) had an excellent performance, taking the second place spot for the Nittany Lions and ending the day as 27th overall. Juniors Nicolas Graziano (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Howie Chan (Walnut, Calif.) placed 42nd and 63rd, respectively. Freshman Ethan Gumagay (Vienna, Va.) took 84th place, rounding out the competition for the men.
The women's team placed slightly higher than the men's, with freshman Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France) coming in 23rd, senior Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.) taking 32nd and freshman Medora McCarthy (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) ending in 51st.
Penn State is looking to carry the momentum going into Sunday's men's epee and women's foil events.
