UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's golf team competed in rounds one and two by playing 36-holes of continuous golf in the Pinehurst Challenge. After two well played rounds shooting 296 plus-8 and 285 3-under, the Lions are in sixth place heading into the final round.
Newcomer Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) led the way with a total day score of 143 1-under. Rogowicz shot 73 plus-1 in round one and 70 2-under in round two. Rogowicz is tied for 14th in the player leaderboard.
Senior Grace Chung's (Richmond Hill, Ontario) experience showed today, as she was able to bounce back from a rough first round score of 84 plus-12, and shoot a season-low 69 3-under. That is tied for the lowest round score shot this season for the team.
Senior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) finished second on the team with a total score of 146 plus-2, with newcomer Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) right behind her at 147 plus-3 through the first two rounds.
Sophomore Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) shot a 76 plus-4 in round one and a 74 plus-2 in round two for a total score of 150.
Senior Kate Granahan (Allentown, Pa.) who was competing as an individual, finished with a total score of 153 plus-9 by shooting a 77 plus-5 in round one and a season-low 76 plus-4 in round two.
East Carolina University holds first place heading into the final round with a team score of 570 6-under. The Pirates are three strokes ahead of the second place Iowa.
William & Mary's Alessandra Liu set a record today for the lowest tournament round score ever shot at No. 1 course at Pinehurst by shooting a 65 7-under in the second round.
The final round will begin tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
