UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State swimming and diving teams will host Virginia Tech in their home opener Friday at 4 p.m. in McCoy Natatorium

This is the first of three home meets for Penn State this season. The next will be Nov. 13-14 against Princeton and UConn.

The Series
The Penn State women's team is 3-1 all-time against Virginia Tech, with the first meeting between the teams coming in 2006. The Nittany Lions have won the last two meetings, including last season's in Blacksburg. The Lions earned a 197-156 victory last year, with current senior Alyson Ackman and recent graduates Carolyn Fittin and Megan Siverling winning multiple events.

The Penn State men's team is 0-4 versus Virginia Tech. The teams first met in 2006 and most recently met last season, where the Blue and White fell to the Hokies 233-120. Recent graduate Nate Savoy was the top performer, winning two individual events and swimming on two first-place relay teams.

The Nittany Lions
The Penn State women carry a 3-0 record into the first home meet of the 2015-16 season after claiming decisive victories over Georgia Tech, Liberty and Emory in Atlanta to open the season. Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo was named the Big Ten Women's Swimming Freshman of the Week for her performance during the three meets, as she achieved an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:19.10 in the 400 individual medley at Emory, and totaled five individual top-five finishes for the weekend. She became the first Nittany Lion to win the award since it was introduced in 2011-12.

The Lion men are 1-1 after the opening weekend, falling to Georgia Tech in the season opener, but rebounding the next day against Emory. Rory Lewis was named the Big Ten Men's Freshman of the Week after finishing in the top three in all eight of his events across the two meets, placing first in four. He is the first Nittany Lion to win the award since 2012-13.

The Opponents
The meet will be Virginia Tech's season opener. The Hokies placed 31st at last year's NCAA Championships on the men's side and 27th on the women's side.

Next Up
Penn State will travel to Michigan to face both the Wolverines and Virginia in a tri-meet Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
