Women's Gymnastics Announces 2016 Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
The Penn State women's gymnastics program has announced the upcoming 2016 schedule Thursday. The 2016 Penn State women's gymnastics schedule is highlighted by five home meets, including the B1G Five qualifier on March 12.

"We have an amazing home schedule for 2016," said head coach Jeff Thompson. "We are thrilled to be bringing a variety of competitions to Rec Hall, starting with our season-opening double dual meet versus NC State while our men face Army on January 9. Also in January, we will host both Nebraska and Illinois in Big Ten dual meet action. February brings the opportunity for a great non-conference quad meet with Alabama, Cornell and Denver we will wrap up the home schedule with the B1G Five qualifier here on March 12. I am sure that our unbelievable fans will enjoy welcoming some of the top teams in the Big Ten and the nation to Happy Valley in 2016."

For the second-straight season, the Nittany Lions begin the year at Rec Hall. Along with the men's program, Penn State competes at Rec Hall on Jan. 9, 2016. The women's team welcomes North Carolina State, while the Penn State men compete against Army.

The Nittany Lions conclude their season-opening homestand a week later, Jan. 16, against Big Ten foe Nebraska.

Penn State won't have to travel far from home for its first road meet of the year. Following the Nebraska meet, Penn State heads to College Park, Md., for a matchup against Maryland on Jan. 24.

The Blue and White return back home a week later for Friday night (Jan. 29) showdown against Illinois. After the Illinois meet, the Nittany Lions hit the road for a pair of competitions against Michigan State (Feb. 6) and Ohio State (Feb. 13).

Penn State will then partake in a pair of quad meets, with one at home and the other in Philadelphia, Pa. The home quad-meet is slated for Feb. 20, against Alabama, Cornell and Denver.

A week later, Penn State heads to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Philadelphia Pink Meet. The Philadelphia Pink Meet is hosted by AJS Pancott Gymnastics NTC at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Feb. 26. Penn State competes against Southern Connecticut, West Chester and West Virginia.

The Nittany Lions then heads west for a double dual with the Penn State men's gymnastics program on the campus of Arizona State (March 4).

The postseason portion of 2016 begins for the Nittany Lions at home with the Big Five Qualifier. The Big Five Qualifier is scheduled for March 12 at Rec Hall.

The 2016 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships takes place on the University of Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on March 19.

The NCAA Regional Championships is hosted at campus sites on Saturday, April 2 and the top two teams from each of the six sites, which includes, Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Utah, will advance to the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA title will be contested in Dallas-Fort Worth this season from Friday, April 15 through Saturday, April 16 at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Team and individual qualifying takes place on Friday, April 15. The individual event champions and team champion is crowned on Saturday, April 16.

"We are also excited to introduce eight new gymnasts to the Penn State fans this season," Thompson said. "They are ready to help us continue last season's undefeated Rec Hall streak and the coaching staff is excited to find a way to showcase their outstanding talents this season."
