PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Recording the second Big Ten Conference win of the season, the Penn State field hockey team posted their first overtime win this season in a 3-2 victory over Rutgers on Friday afternoon at Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex.

The Nittany Lions would slow down the Scarlet Knight offense that posted seven shots and three penalty corners in the first half, to a total of 10 four, respectively.

Penn State (6-8, 2-3 Big Ten) outshot the Scarlet Knights, more than doubling their shot total, attempting 22 shots compared to Rutgers (6-8, 0-6 Big Ten) 10 shots.

The Nittany Lions would hold the advantage in penalty corners as well, earning a total of 15 compared to four penalty corners for Rutgers.

"We had a lot of opportunities to open the game up, their goalie played well," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss.

Penn State would score on goals by Brooke Birosk (Ickesburg, Pa.), Carly Celkos (Berlin, N.J.), and the game winner from Stephanie Hussey (Miami, Fla.).

Penn State would tie a team high with three assist for the first time since a three assist effort by the Nittany Lions on Aug. 30 at Virginia.

"It was great that we had kids step up and Stephanie Hussey finished in overtime with a great pass by Carley Celkos, to get it over with quickly in overtime was a big relief for all of us, but also exciting to get our second conference win."

Aurelia Meijer led the team in shot attempts (7) and shots on goal (5) for Penn State who attempted 11 shots in the second half while limiting Rutgers to three shots.

"I think we had a little more poise in the second half, we did a much better job of possessing the ball," said Morett-Curtiss.

"Aurelia had some nice shots on goal, and their goalie really made some nice saves. (Aurelia) is really good at getting the ball in scoring position; I'm really pleased with the consistency she gives from game-to-game."

The Penn State field hockey team will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for a second Big Ten Conference match up against Indiana at the IU Field Hockey Complex Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.
