UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Following the biggest meet of the season thus far in the Wisconsin Adidas Invite, the Penn State women's cross country team landed at No. 15 following the reshuffling of the rankings in the fifth edition of the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches Poll, as announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
"I am proud of our team for the work they have put in this summer and fall and the people who vote in the polls are recognizing this work," said head coach John Gondak.
"We have to continue moving forward and preparing for the Big Ten Championships to make sure we back up our ranking and continue our drive toward championship time."
The women's cross country team finished 10th at the Wisconsin Adidas Invite amongst a field of more than 20 nationally ranked teams. Senior Tori Gerlach (Perkasie, Pa.) led the way for the Nittany Lion with her 32nd-place finish, followed by two more Nittany Lions inside the top-75.
In the regional rankings, the women's cross country team occupies the No. 1 spot in the Mid-Atlantic region, while the men slipped to the No. 6 spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The Nittany Lions travel to Chicago, Ill. for the Big Ten cross country championships on Nov. 1.
The men's team recorded a third-place finish at last year's championships, while the women recorded a sixth-place finish at the 2014 Big Ten cross country championships in Iowa City, IA.
