UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophomore wide receiver Chris Godwin (Middletown, Del.) has been added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list for the nation's top receiver. Godwin joins teammate and fellow sophomore DaeSean Hamilton (Fredericksburg, Va.) on the list.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely outstanding wide receiver.
Bobby Engram was the inaugural award winner in 1994 and is the only Penn State player to claim the honor.
Godwin leads the Nittany Lions with 34 catches for 628 yards. He also had a pair of touchdown catches on the season. Godwin ranks 27th in FBS in yards per reception (18.47), 30th in receiving yards and 41st yards per game (78.5). He has caught at least four passes in eight of his last nine games, dating back to last season, and has at least one reception in 20 of his 21 collegiate games.
The Middletown, Delaware native is coming off his second-straight 100-yard game with 135 yards on four catches with a touchdown against Maryland. He also had 103 yards on three catches at No. 1 Ohio State. Godwin is the first Nittany Lion with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Allen Robinson in 2013 (106 vs. Nebraska; 122 at Wisconsin).
The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 10, 2015, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast 7-9 p.m. on ESPN. College Football Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will present the 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
The Nittany Lions return to Beaver Stadium after a two-game road trip to host Illinois Saturday at noon. The game will air on ESPN2, the Penn State Sports Network (10:30 a.m. pregame) and GoPSUsports.com.
