PHILADELPHIA ââ'¬" The Penn State fencing team wrapped up its final day of competition at the Temple Open with another all-weapon top-10 performance, this time from the men's team. Three freshmen Nittany Lions had standout performances, securing first place finishes in foil and sabre and a second place finish on epee.

Freshman Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.) took home first place on foil for the men's team. Sophomore Stephen Barnett (Clinton, Conn.) ended competition in the top-10 as well, finishing in ninth place. Freshmen Richard Cho (Seoul, South Korea) and Dylan Pyne (Princeton, N.J.) rounded out the foil event for Penn State, coming in 11th and 16th place, respectively.

Freshman Gavin Turner (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Alejandro Andrade (Quito, Ecuador) managed to find success for the Nittany Lions in the sabre event. Turner took home first place after a close 15-14 bout in the final round.

While both Penn State fencers went undefeated in the preliminary pools, Andrade fell in the second round of direct elimination play 15-10. Andrade finished 17th on the day.

The Penn State epee squad finished the Temple Open all top-10. Freshman Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) came in second place after narrowly edging teammate Conor Shepard (Colleyville, Texas) in the quarterfinals. Juniors Shepard and Patrick August (Las Vegas, N.V.) finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

The fencing team returns home this weekend to host the 43rd annual Penn State Garret Open in the White Building. The tournament will run from Saturday, Nov. 7 until Sunday, Nov. 8. Competition begins at 8 a.m. on both days.
