Nittany Lion Wrestlers Dominate Mat-Town Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team sent eight wrestlers to the Mat-Town Open at Lock Haven University today. Four of Penn State's eight competitors won individual titles at the event, with wrestlers competing both attached and unattached.

Jered Cortez (Carol Stream, Ill.) went 4-0 with a tech fall to win the title at 133 to get Penn State's championship onslaught started. True freshman Vincenzo Joseph (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dominated 157, going 4-0 with four technical falls to win the title. Junior Brian Brill (Lock Haven, Pa.) was equally impressive, going 4-0 with two pins and two tech falls to win the 174 pound crown. True freshman Kellan Stout (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 3-0 with two majors to win Penn State's fourth individual title, at 184 pounds.

Red-shirt freshman Devon Van Cura (Washington, N.C.) went 4-1 at 184 to take third while Dominic Giannangeli went 3-2 at 141. Caleb Livingston (Drexel Hill, Pa.) picked up a victory at 165, Patrick Higgins (Monroeville, N.J.) picked up a win at 125, Dylan Dailey (Danville, Pa.) competed at 184 and Scott Stossel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) competed at 125 to round out Penn State's competitors at the event.

Penn State will compete in the 2015 Nittany Lion Open on Sunday, Dec. 6. The event, hosted by the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, starts at 10 a.m. in Rec Hall. With season tickets once again sold out in advance of the campaign beginning, Penn State is giving fans more opportunities than ever to see the Nittany Lions compete, including Penn State's next home dual meet on Dec. 13. BJC Dual public tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for youth (12-and-under). Group tickets for the BJC Duals are now available as well, allowing fans to purchase 20 or more tickets at only $8 per ticket. Group tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY. With the five Rec Hall duals already at seated capacity, a limited number of Standing Room Only tickets (SROs) can be purchased for each of those five duals as well. Rec Hall SROs may only be purchased by calling 1-800-NITTANY and are $15 per person.
