ROSEMONT, Ill. - Following a strong outing against top-ranked competition, freshman Penn State diver Hector Garcia Boissier (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) was named the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Co-Freshman of the Week by the conference office, it was announced Wednesday.
Led by Garcia Boissier (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain), the divers led the Nittany Lions against No. 8 Michigan and Virginia. On the first day of competition, Garcia Boissier placed second to teammate Logan Knauss (Audubon, Pa.) in the 1-meter dive with a score of 283.75. He placed second again Sunday in the 3-meter with a season-best and NCAA Zone Regional qualifying score of 340.85.
Garcia is the second Nittany Lion to receive the Big Ten's weekly freshman accolade this season. Classmate Rory Lewis (Kensington, Md.) earned the same honor following the inaugural week of competition, Oct. 7.
Next up Penn State will host Connecticut and Princeton in a tri-meet Nov. 13-14 in McCoy Natatorium. The meet will start Friday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m., and feature two sessions Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
