WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior Celine Whitlinger (Garden Grove, Calif.) has been named the College Hockey America (CHA) Goaltender of the Month for October, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. She also received the honor twice last season.
In the season-opener, Whitlinger held the top-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers to one goal behind 41 saves. A week later, Whitlinger and the Nittany Lions topped the No. 7/8 Boston University, 5-3.
In four out of six games this season, Whitlinger has held the opposition to one goal or less. Whitlinger also has tallied three games with 35 or more saves.
On the year, Whitlinger has made 158 saves, tallied a goals against average of 1.66 and posted a save percentage of .940. Last weekend, Whitlinger topped the all-time Penn State saves record of 1,801 set by Nicole Paniccia in 2014.
Whitlinger leads the CHA in goals against average (1.66) and save percentage (.940). She also ranks third in the conference with 158 saves.
The Nittany Lions return home to the Pegula Ice Arena this weekend, Nov. 6-7, as they welcome conference-foe Mercyhurst for a two-game series. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., Friday night and 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon.
