UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Three Nittany Lions were honored by TopDrawerSoccer Tuesday for their performance in the NCAA quarterfinals. Frannie Crouse (Greensburg, Pa.), Emily Ogle (Strongsville, Ohio) and Kaleigh Riehl (Fairfax Station, Va.) were named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.
The Nittany Lions advanced to their fifth College Cup following a 2-0 victory over West Virginia last Saturday at Jeffrey Field.
Ogle tallied the first goal of the match in the 12th minute of play. After a West Virginia foul 30 yards out, Ogle stepped up on the set piece for the Nittany Lions. From the left side of the field, Ogle fired the ball on goal and over the out-stretched Hannah Steadman for the 1-0 Nittany Lion lead. Her goal Saturday was the fourth of the NCAA Tournament and the seventh of her sophomore season.
Then in the 39th minute, Crouse placed a shot into the upper-left corner of the net from near the top of the penalty area for the 2-0 Nittany Lion lead. Her goal Saturday was the 10th of her season, which matches her total from her freshman season.
Riehl anchored a Nittany Lion backline that held the Mountaineers to 10 shot attempts. Prior to the match, WVU was leading the nation with 24.1 shot attempts per game. Riehl was on the field for the full 90 minutes Saturday and recorded one shot attempt.
Penn State will face Rutgers Friday, Dec. 4, in the College Cup semifinals at 5 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., live on ESPNU.
