BOSTON ââ'¬" After advancing through yesterday's first and second rounds of direct elimination, senior captain Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.) and sophomore Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) fenced in the second day of competition at the fencing World Cup.
Both men competed in the sabre event.
Starting in the table of 64, Mackiewicz advanced through two more rounds of direct elimination play, but fell short against Russia's Nikolay Kovalev. Mackiewicz ended 27th on the day.
Streets did not advance past the table of 64 after being bested by Italy's Giovanni Repetti. Streets finished the competition in 51st place.
The Nittany Lions finish the fall semester with one NCAA duel, two rounds of Olympic trials, a World Cup showing, and multiple top-10 placements in open competition. The team returns to action Jan. 8 ââ'¬" Jan. 11 when the Nittany Lions travel to St. Louis, Mo. to compete in the January North American Cup.
