UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour announced today that Idaho will visit Beaver Stadium on August 31, 2019 in the season opener for both teams. This will be the first meeting between the Nittany Lions and Vandals.
The Idaho game is the second non-conference game announcement for the 2019 season. Penn State will host Pittsburgh on Sept. 14 and has one more game to be scheduled.
Penn State will meet Sun Belt foes in three consecutive years -- Georgia State (2017), Appalachian State (2018) and Idaho (2019). The Nittany Lions will square off against Sun Belt opponents in the season opener in back-to-back years against the Mountaineers and Vandals.
Long-time rivals Penn State and Pitt will meet every season from 2016-19. The Nittany Lions will play in Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2018 and the Panthers will play in State College in 2017 and 2019. In addition to the Pitt series, Penn State is scheduled to play Virginia Tech for the first time in 2020 and 2025 and renew its rivalry with West Virginia in 2023-24.
Penn State will have five Big Ten home games in 2016 as the Big Ten moves to a nine-game conference schedule. The Nittany Lions will play three non-conference games beginning next year.
The Nittany Lions open the 2015 campaign on the road against Temple at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 5 at 3:30 p.m.
