FINAL STATISTICS

MADISON, Wis. -The difference was seen in two quarters, as Wisconsin outscored Penn State by 21 points in the second and third quarters combined, handing the Lady Lions an 82-62 setback on Sunday (Jan. 10) inside the Kohl Center.

The Lady Lions (6-9, 1-3 B1G) connected on 39.7 percent (27-of-68) of their shots from the field, but the Badgers (6-8, 2-2 B1G) hit on 49.2 percent of their field goals, including a 66.7 percent clip from three-point range. Both teams limited their turnovers, with Penn Stat turning the ball over 14 times to Wisconsin's nine, and the Lady Lions owned a 40-38 edge on the boards.

Sophomore Lindsey Spann led the way for Penn State with 21 points, adding five rebounds, three steals and three assists. Spann connected on three shots from three-point range to give her 11 shots from distance over her past three games. Her 21 points mark the ninth time this season she has reached double figures and fourth time she has eclipsed the 20-point mark.

Both seniors reached double-figures in the scoring column, with Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.) netting 16 and Brianna Banks (Newnan, Ga,) adding 12 points. Freshman Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.) netted six points with four rebounds and three assists.

Agee led all players with nine rebounds and added two assists, one steal and one blocked shot. Agee's rejection is the 110th of her career and puts her just 10 shy of tying Tori Waldner for the No. 8 spot in the career rejections list.

Wisconsin was led by 23 points from Dakota Whyte, who netted five shots from three-point range. Three other Badgers reached double figures, as Nicole Bauman (14), Michala Johnson (12) and Cayla McMorris (11) all topped the 10-point mark.

The two teams got off to a slow start in the opening period, with the score sitting at 6-2 in favor of Wisconsin with 6:08 to play in the opening stanza. Johnson had all six points for the Badgers and Spann netted the only bucket for Penn State. After finding their legs, the Badger lead sat at 9-7 before Avayanna Young and McMorris converted on layups just seconds apart thanks to a Penn State turnover, pushing the home team's lead to six points, 13-7. A Spann three-pointer with 32 seconds left in the quarter cut the Wisconsin lead to just three points, 15-12, heading to the first break.

Page's three pointer to open the second quarter knotted the score at 15 points and the two teams traded baskets for the better part of the quarter. Penn State tied the game three times over the first five minutes, but the Badgers closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 40-29 edge into halftime. Whyte hit two big three pointers in the closing 90 seconds to push Wisconsin's lead to 11 points entering the break.

Wisconsin opened the third quarter with a 15-7 spurt and eventually pushed its lead to 23 points (64-41) when McMorris knocked down a three-pointer and Whyte collected a steal and converted the layup on the other end.

Penn State outscored Wisconsin 17-13 over the final 10 minutes, but couldn't cut deep enough into the Badgers lead. Agee scored six points in the fourth quarter and 12 of her 16 points after halftime.

Penn State returns home for the first of two home games on Wednesday, Jan. 13 against Nebraska. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and can be viewed live on BTN2go.com or on the airwaves of the Penn State Sports Network.
