Fencers Return to Action at the St. Louis NAC

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State fencing team opens up the second half of its season at the North American Cup in St. Louis, Mo., this weekend. The competition will take place Jan. 8 - Jan. 11, seeing action from Penn State fencers each day.

Throughout the weekend, 15 Nittany Lions will be competing attached - meaning they will be representing Penn State - and nine fencers will be participating unattached - meaning they will be competing individually. All athletes will be competing in Division I in their respective events.

The tournament will kickoff with the men's foil event at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan 8. Senior Nobuo Bravo (San Francisco, Calif.) and freshman Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.) will be competing attached, with freshman Dylan Pyne (Princeton, N.J.) competing unattached.

The North American Cup will continue the following day with the men's epee and women's foil events, taking place at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Junior Desree Ortega-Furgeson (Wyoming, Mich.), sophomores Najiyyah Clark (Maplewood, N.J.) and Kasey Iverson (Basking Ridge, N.J.), and freshmen Joshua Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) will be competing attached.

Additionally, juniors Patrick August (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Lars Swanson (Mendham, N.J.), and freshman Sam Freiman (The Woodlands, Texas) will be fencing unattached on the day.

Sunday will see early morning action in the women's epee and men's sabre events, both beginning at 8 a.m. Competing for the women will be senior Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.), junior Jessie Radanovich (Tollhouse, Calif.) and freshman Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France). Freshmen Alissa Hofmann (Cambridge, Mass.) and Nicolette Vigna (Thornwood, N.Y.) will be fencing unattached.

Representing Penn State in men's sabre is senior Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.), sophomore Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) and freshmen Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.) and Marcel Dolegiewicz (Park Ridge, Ill.). Sophomores Khalil Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.), Jarret Lewis (Montclair, N.J.) and freshman Brad Devito (Ridgefield, Conn.) will compete individually in the event.

Sophomore Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.) will wrap up competition in St. Louis at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11. Charpin will represent Penn State in the women's sabre event.
