CLEVELAND - The Nittany Lions finished day one of the Junior Olympics today, seeing two athletes compete in the junior women's sabre event. The four day-long competition will run through Monday, Feb. 15.
Sophomore Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.) tied for 40th place in the competition. Charpin advanced through pool play and two rounds of direct elimination.
Freshman DeAna Oliver (Montclair, N.J.) also made it through preliminary pools, but fell in the first round of direct elimination. Oliver ended 72nd on the day.
The Nittany Lions will continue competition at the Junior Olympics tomorrow with the junior women's epee and junior men's foil events. The women will compete at 8 a.m. and the men will compete at 2 p.m.
