BRADENTON, Fla. -- Penn State began Big Ten Match Play losing a competitive matchup to Indiana, 3-2-1, but responded with the most dominant victory of day one defeating Michigan, 5-0-1, at the Hammock Beach Resort Friday.

Junior Christian Elliot (Port Perry, Ontario) and freshman Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.) each won both of their day one matchups, defeating their respective Hoosier and Wolverine opponents.

Senior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) split his first match against Andrew Havill of Indiana for the only tie of the opening contest. Dornes won his second match of the day by beating Michigan's Nick Carlson, 5 and 4.

Senior Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) and sophomore Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) both picked up their first points of the day against Michigan. Vartelas won his contest, 3 and 2, while Miller outplayed Reed Hrynewich of Michigan, 4 and 3.

The Nittany Lions (1-1) will roll out the same lineup for third round play which has been moved up to 7:45 a.m. The Blue and White will face Michigan State (1-1), followed by final round action beginning at 1:15 p.m. Final round matchups will be determined after round three with the equal placed finishers in each division squaring off.
