UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 7 Penn State men's volleyball (10-2, 5-0) swept Princeton (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) in their lone match of the year in South Gym to wrap up the first weekend of an 11-game home stand Saturday afternoon.

Chris Nugent (12) and Aiden Albrecht (10) led Penn State with double figure kills on the night. Matt Callaway finished the match with six blocks, while Royce Clemens finished with five digs on the defensive side of the ball. Taylor Hammond would pour in 33 assist against the Tigers bringing his season total to 470.

Matt Seifert, the Mike Anderson Memorial Player of the Game, contributed four kills on five attempts hitting .600 on the night while adding five blocks as Penn State finished with a season high 15.5 team blocks in the match.

Penn State, as they did in the last match up between the two in the EIVA semi-finals last April, downed the Tigers in straight sets holding the Princeton offence to only 20 points in each set.
Penn State came out of the gates fast building a 7-2 lead over the Tigers forcing a Princeton timeout. Out of the timeout, Princeton began the slow crawl to get themselves back in the game as they found themselves trailing the Lions by one 20-19 off a Penn State attack error that would yield a Head coach Mark Pavlik timeout.

The timeout proved to be too much for Princeton who surrendered four-straight points to Penn State in route to a 5-1 run to end the set and take a 1-0 lead.

Set two saw Penn State lead from the beginning and never let it go as the Nittany Lions capped the set with a 5-4 run to win the set 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead.

Penn State would have to earn set three as Princeton would battle the Lions point for point, tying the game at 14 different occasions with the final tie coming at 20-20 late in the set.

Princeton would call two timeouts in as many points as Penn State took a 22-20 lead over Princeton. The final three points of the game would come in favor of Penn State who capped the set and the game with a Princeton attack error.

The win against Princeton moves Penn State to 5-0 in EIVA Conference play on the year.

Next up, Penn State will play games three and four of the 11-game home stand as the Nittany Lions welcome Charleston (WV) and George Mason into Rec Hall Friday and Saturday February 26 and 27; each game is slated for a 7 p.m. first whistle.
