UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa; February 6th 2016 ââ'¬" The Penn State women's tennis team traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa to play against Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh campus and fell 5-2. Next the Nittany Lions will travel to Richmond, Va. for a match against Virginia Commonwealth University on Sunday, February 14th.
In singles play, Lolade Ogungbesan defeated Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-4, Audrey Ann Blakely defeated Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), Callie Frey beat Dasha Sapogova (Belarus, Minsk) 6-4, 6-4, Gabriela Rezende defeated Samantha Tutelman (New York, NY.) 6-2, 6-4, Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) defeated Clara Lucas 7-6, 6-4, and Amber Washington defeated Kelly Mengel (Pittsburgh, Pa) 6-3, 6-2
In doubles action, the duo Jacqueline Zuhse and Katherine Whiteaway won over Amber Washington and Lolade Ogungbesan 6-2 while Devan McCluskey and Kelly Mengel defeated Callie Frey/Clara Lucas 6-2. The doubles match between Audrey Ann Blakely and Gabriela Rezende versus Dasha Sapogova and Samantha Tutelman was stopped at 4-3 due to the doubles point being clinched.
"Our team fought hard and battled a good Pitt team today," said head coach Chris Cagle, "We put it on the line on every court and I am proud of that mental and physical investment!"
